Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?

When I started training on the medical wards, my first rotation was on the gastro service. My first two attendings were among the most intelligent, thoughtful and impressive people I’d ever met. One became my personal advisor through the rest of medical school, my residency and fellowship. I wanted to be like them.

What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?

I have five children—spending time with them is most important. We love gardening, nature and literature. We always have spirited current events discussions at dinner.
