About

Jason Martin

Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?

I have always loved the topic of gastroenterology because it covers such a large number of organs and types of disease. I get to help people with issues with their colon, stomach, small bowel, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. But more than that, I have the privilege of making a positive impact in the lives of others. I have the opportunity to prevent colon cancer, treat liver disease, and help people with symptoms that can be socially debilitating.

Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?

I am interested in colon cancer screening, GERD, inflammatory bowel disease, esophageal motility disorders, diarrheal disorders including microscopic colitis, celiac and non-celiac sprue, and irritable bowel syndrome. I also see patients for their general hepatology issues including hepatitis C, hepatitis B, and fatty liver disease.

Where did you study?

Undergraduate: Carleton College, Northfield, MN
Medical School: University of Texas Southwestern, Dallas, TX
Internal Medicine: University of Texas Southwestern Dallas, TX

What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?

My wife and I spend much of our free time in the park with our children. We also enjoy gardening and cooking.

Do you have any special honors or recognitions in your medical career that you would like to share?

During residency I was named House Officer of Excellence. During fellowship I was given the annual award for professionalism. I have published articles in several national journals on topics including diagnostic markers for cirrhosis of the liver, fertility in inflammatory bowel disease, and analyzing factors to increase rates of colon cancer screening for underserved populations.
