About

William Stevens

Why did you choose to specialize in Gastroenterology?

I like the perfect mix of the highly technical endoscopic procedures along with the mix of complex medical and pathophysiological problems which require in-depth thought. This creates a great balance of mental and technical stimulation.

Do you have a specialty of interest within GI?

I have an extra year of training in ERCP, so I see more biliary and pancreatic problems then many gastroenterologists. I also like seeing patients for colon cancer screening and evaluation and treatment of liver diseases.

Where did you study?

Undergrad: Texas Tech University, Medical School: University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Internal Medicine Internship and Residency: Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes Hospital. Gastroenterology Training: University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Parkland Hospital.

What certifications do you hold?

Board Certified in Gastroenterology.

What do you and your family enjoy doing in your spare time?

My family and I like to spend time outdoors together hiking, camping, backpacking and fishing. I am an amateur astronomer. I also enjoy home brewing beer and cooking.

Do you have any special honors or recognitions in your medical career that you would like to share?

I was Chief Resident for my final year of residency. I received the residency Teacher of the Year award at Presbyterian Hospital in 2000. I have been nominated for “Best Doctors” in Dallas for over 10 years. I have also been nominated for “Best Doctors” in Texas.
