About

Jose Iturbe

José Miguel Iturbe, MD Board Certified in Interventional Cardiology, Cardiology and Internal Medicine, and he practices primarily out of Cardiology Clinic of San Antonio’s Stone Oak location.

Dr. Iturbe’s path to a profession as an interventional cardiologist was thoughtful and deliberate. He gained valuable exposure to medicine first while working as a research assistant and a medical interpreter at Stanford University in Stanford, California where he completed his undergraduate degree in human biology and English. Later, while pursuing his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas, he served as a research assistant to an Interventional Cardiologist at the North Texas Veterans Hospital. These experiences helped cement Dr. Iturbe’s decision by showing him what it would really be like to practice medicine after his training was complete.

Dr. Iturbe completed his residency in internal medicine at UT Southwestern. He then completed his Cardiology and interventional cardiology fellowships at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia and stayed for an additional year to complete a fellowship in structural heart disease at Emory Heart and Vascular Center.

His training and expertise include transfemoral and transcaval access for transcatheter aortic valve replacement, PFO/ASD closure, transcatheter mitral valve repair, as well as, large bore access, percutaneous mechanical support, EKOS catheter placement, and transradial access. He specializes in cardiac catheterization and intervention and the minimally-invasive treatment of adult congenital heart defects.

He performs some structural heart interventions like TAVRs and mitral valve repairs at Methodist Hospital.
