About

Chelsea Twyman

Meet Dr. Chelsea Twyman. Early on, she knew she would follow a career path that enabled her to help children. “Originally I planned on changing lives by enriching them through the arts,” she explains. “Later in my sophomore year of college I realized that, if I pursued a career in medicine, I could help people across the lifespan with a focus on pediatrics.”

And that she did. She chose audiology as her specialty to help people live richer, fuller lives. “We often depend on hearing more than we do vision when it comes to communicating with our loved ones,” Dr. Twyman says. “I couldn’t imagine anyone not being able to hear someone special tell them how much they’re loved.”

She chose to practice at Beacon because of their shared philosophy of putting patient care at the forefront. Likewise, she treats her patients the way she would want other doctors to practice medicine with her own family members – with compassion and honesty.

As an audiologist, Dr. Twyman performs diagnostic hearing tests for adults and children. If the hearing loss can’t be treated with surgery, she helps improve it with hearing aids or cochlear implants. Her goal is to help her patients have a better understanding of how an audiologist can help restore relationships between them and their loved ones. “I want them to know that I may not be able to fix everything, but I’m always on their side – and I’m always willing to try.”

Dr. Twyman received her Bachelor of Science degree in speech language pathology and audiology from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. She received her doctorate of audiology from the Northeast Ohio Au.D. Consortium comprised of Kent State University, the University of Akron and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
She is passionate about helping children with hearing loss hear better and learn to advocate for their listening needs. She founded the group HICOM (Hearing Impaired Children of Michiana) in 2019 to help children with hearing loss connect with like peers.

In her own words…

Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My mother.

What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I babysat for my mom’s coworker. I remember thinking that I really enjoyed working with children.

What is your favorite Movie? My favorite movie is Blended with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? My worst was chemistry. My best was English.

If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Clara Barton. Not only did she found the American Red Cross, but she also opened a free school in New Jersey. She later left the second school after someone else was hired for twice what she made. Clara Barton was an independent woman with a large heart to help others, and she knew her worth. I think she’d be able to give great advice about many life aspects.

In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? I am passionate about dance and helping our youth make better decisions. My hobbies and interests include dance, playing piano and volunteering for organizations through events or my church’s outreach program.

Do you have pets? Yes, I have three dogs. Claire – a total sweetheart to all humans; Ziva – a stubborn, independent ball of fire; and Sophie – reserved, but a lover when you get to know her.

What is something most people don’t know about you? Before I decided to be an audiologist, I was a dance major.
