Alexis Tingan

Alexis S. Tingan, MD joined the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation leading our growth in outpatient spine and musculoskeletal services. Dr. Tingan works in concert with our sports medicine physicians and other Penn departments with sports medicine activities to broaden our department’s team coverage. Born and raised in Beaumont, TX, Dr. Tingan received his Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology from Princeton University in 2005. After receiving his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in 2010, Dr. Tingan completed an internship in the Department of General Surgery at Penn. From 2011 to 2015, he was a resident in our training program and served as Chief Resident during his final year. In 2015, he was recognized as our department’s Resident Educator of the Year. Dr. Tingan then completed a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Tingan was the Assistant Team Physician for the University of Pennsylvania men’s varsity soccer team from 2012 to 2015. With his extensive personal experience and interest in running, he served as the event physician for Penn Relays, the Philadelphia Marathon, and the Philadelphia Triathlon. He was also the team physician for West Philadelphia High School in 2015 and 2016. Dr.Tingan is currently the team physician for the University of Pennsylvania’s Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field teams, the Medical Director for the Philadelphia Love Run Half Marathon, and the Medical Director for the Penn Relays.
