He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida and his fellowship in oncology-hematology at the University of Miami, where he received the Peter A Cassileth, MD Award as an outstanding fellow and served as Chief Fellow.

Dr Perez most recently served as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami where he also was one of the leaders for Phase 1 oncology clinical research as well as the Head and Neck Group. He was previously an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville, where he received the Best Faculty Teacher Award in 2015 and 2017.Dr Perez earned his medical degree from the University of Panama School of Medicine.
