About

Mary McGowan

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death in the United States. Elevated cholesterol, whether due to genetics, lifestyle or a combination of the two, is an important risk factor for the development of CVD. Over the past 30 years many clinical trials have improved our understanding of cholesterol metabolism and its role in the development of CVD. Our team at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center strives to translate this research into individualized evidence based treatment plans for every one of our patients. Studies have proven that cholesterol reduction can often reduce future cardiac events by about 30%.
