We operate the newest licensed facility for assisted living in the state of Maryland, the privately owned Hummingbird Manor, built to house fifteen residents and located in Aberdeen, in the northeastern corner of the state. Named for the prominent Scottish city, Aberdeen is a medium-sized city, with a population of 14,959 according to the 2010 census. A minor league baseball team, the Aberdeen Ironbirds, operates from here and Aberdeen is also home to the Army's Proving Ground. The facility itself is housed in a building built in the style of a Victorian mansion (actually, it is the historic James B. Baker House, which was built in the Queen Anne style in 1896). It is painted pale blue and has two and a half stories and a big porch. The property covers one and a half acres and is beautifully landscaped, with hydrangeas and other flowers growing in the gardens. Each of the gardens has a theme of its own and there are pathways that lead through them, lined by benches, tables and chairs. A registered nurse, who is available around the clock all week long, runs the place. We offer respite care to those among our residents who need it, for a daily fee. Assistance is provided with getting up, getting washed and dressed, eating, using the bathroom and other activities of daily living. Physicians and podiatrists make routine visits. Like any seniors center, we at Hummingbird Manor provide a range of entertainment and games to keep our residents content. These include card and board games, bingo, wii tournaments, themed crafts and walks in the gardens. If you live in Aberdeen and have aged parents you will be lucky to have this place indeed.
