Upsetting...I went in to be proactive on a
potential ingrown toenail. I am scrupulous about taking care
of my feet due to a history of a broken leg with metal from
a cycling accident 3 years ago. My orthopedic surgeon from
HSS had told me to be careful as that leg with the metal
plates is more vulnerable to infection.

So when I thought I was getting an
ingrown toenail I thought I was being proactive and
researched and found Dr Newmark who had positive reviews. I
made an appointment for that very day. That perhaps should
have been my first warning. That he had an available
appointment immediately.

His bedside manner is very nice and due
to his positive reviews I felt at ease. However as he was
cutting (just a little of the toenail in his words) he cut
my toe quite deeply. I couldn't believe it.

When I got home and evaluated it more
closely I was so upset. I called him and asked him for oral
antibiotics to prevent an infection in that leg with the
metal plates. But first he said are you sure I cut you and
that it is not the Betadine? First of all I know he knows he
cut me as in the office he hid it from me with his hand
blocking my view of the bleeding so that was completely
disingenuous. Second of all I am in the healthcare
profession myself and I know blood when I see it but even a
child would have realized this was blood and not Betadine.
Third of all the pain from this cut was and is intense.

I wasn't going to post a review as I
don't like posting anything negative and I also think he is
a nice person. However nice doesn't make it OK and this
could be a serious complication for me and I am so worried.
I don't want anyone else to make a similar mistake and that
is why I decided to share my experience.

I showed the photos to a good friend
who is a podiatrist and who had been cutting my nails for me
the last 3 years since my accident and never once cut my
toe. The only reason I didn't see her this time is she is
away and I was being proactive. What a mistake on my part.
Anyway my podiatrist friend said and I quote " I don't like
saying anything bad about other doctors but this is
inexcusable"

I am also quite concerned about his
sterilization methods and I pray his instruments were
autoclaved. In hindsight I am very worried as the office
(and again this is in hindsight and you know hindsight is
always 20/20) didn't seem all that clean.

Ugh so sorry to have to share this
experience but I couldn't live with the thought I didn't
share in order to prevent someone else from dealing with
this. I hope this doctor learns something from this
experience and goes on to be more careful with others. I
told him all about my surgery and metal plates in that leg
and still this is what he did to me. Inconceivable really.
