This depends, in part, on whether the chiropractor specializes in specific areas of treatment, or offers general care. For example, many professionals focus on sports medicine, occupational health, and imaging studies for diagnosing particular disorders. Others concentrate on joint pain, nutrition counseling, and rehabilitation following injuries.

Chiropractic care is based on the idea that the body’s functions are controlled by signals that originate in the brain, and are distributed via the nervous system. Because these signals flow through the spinal cord, misalignments in the vertebral column lead to a host of ailments. A chiropractor can help resolve them by performing minor adjustments.

More and more parents are seeking chiropractic care for their children. Many spinal problems seen in adults began as early as birth. Even so called natural birthing methods can stress an infant's spine and developing nerve system. The resulting irritation to the nerve system caused by spinal and cranial misalignment can be the cause of many newborn health complaints. Colic, breathing problems, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions and chronic infections can often be traced to nerve system stress.

Since significant spinal trauma can occur at birth, many parents have their newborns checked right away. As the infant grows, learning to hold up the head, sit, crawl and walk are all activities that affect spinal alignment and are important times to have a child checked by a Doctor of Chiropractic.

Chiropractic Care for Pregnancy
Chiropractic care during pregnancy is an important, yet often overlooked, aspect of prenatal care. The rapid growth of the uterus during pregnancy results in stress on the pelvis and spine as a woman's center of gravity changes. As a result, many pregnant women experience back pain, pelvic pain, and sciatica due to the compromised musculoskeletal system and nervous system. Additionally, when the pelvis and spine become misaligned due to the stresses placed on them the position of the baby is less than optimal. Chiropractic adjustments restore alignment and proper nerve function resulting in decreased pain and better position of the baby which in turn results in easier, faster, and safer births.

Relieving Chronic Back Pain Through Chiropractic Care

Millions of people seek help from chiropractors each year. One in three do so in order to gain relief from back pain caused by sports injuries, auto accidents, and slipped discs. Back pain is particularly troublesome because it seems to return frequently, and severely limits mobility and movement. In some cases, as with sciatica, side effects can even include loss of bladder control (though this is rare).

There are many ways to treat back pain, including surgery, medications, physical therapy (in the case of a herniated disk), and steroid injections. Each can deliver a modicum of relief. It's worth highlighting, however, that these treatment methods are rarely successful in eliminating the root cause of the pain.

Your brain emits nerve messages that travel downward along your spinal cord before exiting through tiny holes in your vertebral column. Under ideal circumstances, each of your vertebrae would be perfectly aligned with those that lie above and below them. There would be no conflict that prevents the passage of the brain's nerve messages through the holes.

Unfortunately, due to strain, physical trauma, and other factors, these vertebrae often move out of alignment. When this happens, the normal path of the nerve messages becomes compromised. You'll experience headaches, back pain, and related neuromusculoskeletal side effects.

A chiropractor performs adjustments to realign your vertebrae and restore your body's natural health. One particular area to which these adjustments are made is the neck. In this article, we'll explain some of the benefits associated with neck adjustments (also called cervical manipulation). You'll learn how the procedure is done, and whether the risks posed in the media are accurate.

Emotions are good and necessary. Normally, a person can have an emotional trauma, experience the emotion, and release the event. However, if this same person has a neuro-physiological deficit, the same emotional trauma can lodge in the body as an N.E.C. This is a reflex pattern very much associated with the conditioned response that Ivan Pavlov documented so well. Restimulated N.E.C.s can cause recurrences of spinal subluxations and their remote complications.

N.E.T. is a methodology of findings and removing vertebral subluxations associated with N.E.C.s, which are preventing abnormal emotional responses from returning to their normal physiology.

The N.E.T. doctor uses muscle testing, body reflex points, and semantic reactions (physiological reactions to memories or words) to assist and guide you to recall a specific negative emotion and when it first occurred. This engages a specific neuro-emotional pattern, much as a computer operator engages a specific program on a computer screen. While you mentally hold the emotional memory, the doctor adjusts the associated spinal subluxations.
