Lawrence has been a licensed physical therapist for over 20 years. After graduating from Long Island University he worked for Mt. Sinai Medical Center in NYC, where he gained significant clinical experience in all areas of rehabilitation with a special focus on neurologically involved patients and geriatrics.

Lawrence has a special interest and expertise in the care of people with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Working as an advanced clinician at the Mt. Sinai Spinal Cord Injury Model Care System, Lawrence earned a reputation of being extremely proficient, energetic and creative while working with this group of patients. He created Urban Outings, a privately funded program that coordinates trips to community attractions and various activities throughout NYC and helps people with SCI in wheelchairs gain street-wise experience and confidence to navigate through the city with public and private transportation. He is also a supporter of many programs that work with people with SCI, such as the Life Challenge Program and the Achilles Track Club of NYC.

Lawrence joined the staff of New York Physical Therapy in 2008

Lawrence is an Adjunct Professor of Physical Therapy at Long Island University, Columbia University, Touro College and Hunter College. He is a member of the Greater New York Chapter of the National Spinal Injury Association and is certified as a Clinical Instructor by the American Physical Therapy Association.
