About

Michael Kotlicky, Developmental Optometrist

Dr. Kotlicky specializes in diagnosing and treating Binocular Vision Disorders (BVDs), such as Convergence Insufficiency, which interfere with reading and learning. BVDs are often mis-diagnosed as ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia and Learning Disabilities due to the similarity of symptoms. We help patients of all ages who suffer from blurry/double vision, headaches, eyestrain, fatigue and frustration when they read. They may lose their place on the page, skip/re-read words or entire lines, see print moving and suffer from poor reading comprehension. Fortunately, if there is an undiagnosed vision problem at the root of their difficulties, we can help. And for most of our patients, testing and treatment is covered under their major medical insurance, so they don't even need to have a vision plan to get services covered. We handle all claims submissions for our patients who have major medical coverage with Aetna, BCBS, CareFirst, BlueChoice and BCBS Federal.

Services If you are struggling with reading and experience headaches, eyestrain, fatigue, loss of place, doubling or blurring of print, poor reading comprehension or inability to read for long periods of time, the first step is to schedule a Developmental Vision Evaluation. This specialty testing is covered under major medical insurance, not a vision plan, and will test for all the visual skills critical for reading and learning. After receiving a diagnosis, Dr. Kotlicky spends a full hour with his patients explaining the visual condition and how it is affecting their ability to use their eyes for up-close tasks, such as reading. He provides a packet of articles, research studies and resources, and makes sure that all questions have been answered. He explains the treatment plan and how long it should take to correct the problem. His Vision Therapy program offers flexible scheduling opportunities for patients of all ages to come in 5 days a week, with appointment choices of morning, afternoon and evening. In addition to the main office in Columbia, where all testing and evaluations are done, he has a treatment center in Pikesville, right off the Baltimore Beltway. Additional Services Vision Therapy
