We arrived to our appointment 15 minutes early and fill out our paperwork and we still waited 50 minutes before I was actually seen, annoying because we were the only people in the waiting room. I wanted to cancel 5 mins into the appointment because the optometrist spent the entire time of my appointment being mildly rude with a slight laugh as if to try to overpower her rudeness. She was persistent and pushy about changing the contacts that I have used for 3 years simply because it was her preference. During my exam she told me she prefered that all of her patients follow all her recommendations or she would drop them as patients. I then explained to her that I understand her preference, however, I am the consumer and I have a preference of my own. She insisted all the way to the checkout counter that I change to Acuvue Oasys advance, which was one of the most expensive contacts out there. Prior to my appointment, I went I looked up the contact lenses that my current insurance covers and Acuvue Oasys were not on the list. She then told me that if I could not abide by her rules that she could only see me this one time and drop me as a patient. I've been seeing an eye doctor for almost 25 years and I've never had any doctor talk to me in the way that this optometrist spoke to me. I was disappointed by the entire exam and I still think that the prescription that she gave me was incorrect because now my vision is not as clear as it was with my last prescription. At the end of the eye exam she told me that the person who is responsible for filing insurance claims was sick and that she would be in by the following week to order my contact lenses, this was 12/5/14. The following week I went to have my eyes checked again however, she brushed off my concerns about my vision not being as clear and insisted that if I changed over to the Acuvue Oasys, that I would get a better contact lens and that would improve my prescription. However, I'm spent my whole entire life looking out of the less expensive contacts and I've always had perfect vision with them. I then contacted them 2 weeks in a row to check on the status of my contacts and they had not yet been ordered, so on the third week I called and asked why my contacts have not yet been ordered, this was 01/06/15. The receptionist said she would have the doctor call me. The optometrist called me and she was extremely irate and extremely rude because I was trying to figure out why they had not order my contact lenses. She then proceeded to explain to me that the previous receptionist had quit and the other person who is responsible for insurance had just came back. She then proceeded to tell me that maybe since I was so upset about them not having my contact lenses after almost a month that she would cancel my order, refund my exam and I could find another doctor. I asked her how is it that her company made a mistake, didn't fix it for weeks, then they had someone quit and they were not diligent enough to make sure that they went behind that person so that there would be no errors and somehow this has turned into my fault when I am the consumer. Somehow their mistake means I'm not going to get my contact lenses. I then told her that I was going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and one minute later she was telling me that she would have my contacts. Two days later the receptionist called me and told me that my contacts were there and then she had this weird sound in her voice like she was scared to tell me that the co pay for my insurance was $20. That situation then make me feel like maybe the doctor implied that I could not afford my contact lenses, and that was by far not the case I just refuse to pay an extra $60 a box for the same contact lenses that I can get $40 dollars a box. I've never felt so insulted or disrespected at any doctors office in my entire life. I am going to share the story on every review board possible and I have reported her to my insurance company. I still plan on reporting her to the Better Business Bureau today as well.
