About

William Karlin, Ph.D.

I provide psychotherapy to adults, couples and adolescents.

I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety, coping with medical problems, bereavement/grief/loss counseling, substance abuse, relationship problems and career/work difficulties.

I conceptualize psychotherapy as a dialogue between two people that can potentially yield great change, growth and personal transformation. The unique context of a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship can help facilitate the exploration of areas of difficulty, hurt and vulnerability. I believe that that this ongoing examination of conflictual material can yield new insights, understandings and perspectives. In turn, this can translate into new behaviors, new ways of experiencing the world and new outcomes in terms of interpersonal relationships and work success.

I see myself as open and flexible. I work collaboratively with my patients. I dislike rigidity and orthodoxy, and I take my patients' feedback very seriously. I see myself as an active participant in the psychotherapy process, whether it be asking probing questions, offering insights or giving advice/suggestions. I welcome feedback about our work together and how our work may be progressing.
