Major issues with the office manager, billing department and customer service completely negate Dr. Dan's great beside manner. Similar to the other Yelp reviewer, when there were discrepancies with my bill I was treated very poorly. No apology was ever given, and I was even told that I was lucky my bill was not sent to collections, even though I paid it the day after I received it. After my experience, I'm baffled they are still in business.

Here's what happened:

I visited Dr. Dan in June 2014 after being rear ended by a bus. I only went to see him twice because I was told I had to pay out of pocket b/c they didn't work with my insurance and their attorney did not accept my case. I did not receive any form of bill from then for twenty one months and assumed my insurance company had taken care of it.

When I did finally receive the bill and called to inquire I was told incorrect information by the receptionist and asked for a credit card on the spot. I did get frustrated with the receptionist, but that's no excuse so I but apologized to her as she was just the messenger. Her response was-- it happens every day. Now that I see the way that their billing is handled, I'm not at all surprised.

When I spoke to the office manager she basically just yelled at me and said that she had told me that my insurance company denied the claim. When I asked why I hadn't received a bill in two years she said they had tried to call me twice, but my number had changed. When I asked when they'd tried to call me she reluctantly admitted both times were in the past month.

After a very unpleasant and unproductive exchange I spoke Dr. Dan who offered to reduce my bill to $125, however when I checked my statement I was charged $175. I called back twice to inquire, but nothing came of it. I decided to let it go because I didn't want to deal with it. I then submitted the bill to the insurance company to try to recoup some of my out of pocket expense and was surprised when it was rejected because it had already been paid....in 2014.

At first dealing with the billing office was pleasant. They agreed they had been already been paid and I was owed a refund and that it would show up in 10 days. It never did so I called twice and when my call was returned I was told that it was no in the office manager's hands and basically to stop calling.

The office manager had no knowledge of my refund, but saw some notes on my account when she checked. She asked me to verify my cc# to be refunded and I was driving so said I'd call back. Before I could call back this morning I received another call from the billing office telling me that I was not in fact due a refund and that had been a mistake.

So...21 months to get a bill, which I paid the next day after I received, 3 weeks to find out my claim was rejected by my insurance company because the Dr. office had already been paid, another three weeks waiting for a refund, and then, oops I'm sorry just kidding. What an incredible waste of time.

The negligent way my account was handled and the lack of professionalism the office displayed left me wishing I'd never stepped foot into the BHMG. I was referred to Dr. Dan by the urgent care clinic and I was in a very confused and fragile state when I went to his office. I was still recovering from the concussion I had suffered and in excruciating pain.

While I'm deeply disappointed in the very poor customer service and negligence with the way my account was handled, as well as the $175 I am out, I am an honest person and always pay my bills. I am writing this review because I don't feel like I was treated like a human being and have never had an experience like this before.

Update: I received an unsigned letter with no name on it from someone at the office that was filled with incorrect information. While the poorly written letter was highly offensive, it did finally provide me with what I have been asking for all along: Detailed information explaining charges and payments.

If I had seen a yelp review like this I would never have gone to BHMG. I hope that no one else has an experience like mine.
