The Animal Care Center of Ooltewah which opened in January of 2011 with a grand opening on the 23 April 2011is the realization of a dream of owner, Dr. John Mullins, a graduate of the University of the South with departmental honors in Biology and University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Dr. Mullins has a varied career. He worked in community development in Burkina Faso, West Africa, was owner of his own practice before selling it in 2001, worked with the USDA in California on Newcastle Disease and in Britain on Foot and Mouth, is a member of National Veterinary Response Team 3 (NVRT_3) with which he was deployed for Hurricane Charlie in Florida and Hurricane Katrina in South Mississippi, is a member of the Hamilton County Disaster Animal Response Team (DART), with which he recently worked in the Apison area after the Hamilton County tornadoes, worked in as an emergency room veterinarian for seven years and has worked in the West Georgia Spay Neuter Clinic with the Humane Society.
The Animal Care Center of Ooltewahs staff is dedicated to providing the highest quality of veterinary care for all stages of our patients lives. Our staff has a wide range of skills garnered from many years of experience on three continents, North America, Europe and Africa. Our goal is to keep your pet a healthy companion and family member with a good quality of life. Towards that goal we offer wellness care, tailored vaccination schedules, dental care, soft tissue surgery including spays, neuters, declaws, laceration repair, correction of entropion and ectropion, tumor removal, spleenectomy, aural hematoma repair, gastric dilation and torsion correction, orthopedics, ophthalmology with intraocular pressure, emergency and critical care, internal medicine with in house diagnostics utilizing the latest technology for complete blood counts, cytology, parasite exams, serum chemistries, urinalysis, microscopy, clotting times, digital radiology, blood pressure, and boarding. During surgery we monitor three lead ECG, blood pressure, end tidal CO2, pulse ox, and temperature. Our patient list includes dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and pocket pets and your family member may be dropped off in the morning to fit in with your busy schedule and we will call you after an exam with our recommendations and updates. Your pet family members are our friends. Come see us before you need us.
Staff members are:Lori Moore one of our veterinary technicians. She is currently attending the Vet Tech Program at Chatt State to receive her degree as a licensed veterinary technician. She has four and half years experience working in emergency veterinary medicine.
Mary Green is a veterinary nurse which she has been for eleven years; it's the best job I have ever had. She has worked five years in emergency and critical care and two years in internal medicine.
Member of: the American Veterinary Medical Association, National Veterinary Response Team-3, Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Hamilton County Disaster Animal Response Team.
