About

Richard Fulbright, Ph.D.

Fulbright & Associates, PC is a neuropsychology clinic specializing in neuropsychological evaluation and cognitive rehabilitation. We serve patients with a wide range of neurological diagnoses, including acquired brain injury, dementia, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and other sources are brain impairment. We also work with individuals who have developmental disorders (learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum). We work with both adults of all ages and children (school age and older). We provide neuropsychological testing to assess the effects of various brain disorders on the person's thinking abilities (cognition) and behavioral functioning.
Our goal is to apply these evaluation findings to improve how the patient, family members, schools, and treatment personnel understand changes in the patient's behavior and cognition. We believe that by more clearly understanding the nature and the mechanism of the individual's difficulties with thinking and her behavior, adaptive solutions to these problems can be developed. We also work closely with medical professionals to ensure that medical issues contributing to these problems are identified and effectively treated.
We provide cognitive rehabilitation therapy to help rebuild skills and develop compensatory techniques in patients with stable conditions who are not experiencing a progressive decline in functioning. With dementia patients and their families, we provide supportive services to the family and caregivers with the goal of maximizing the patient's ability to function independently and to stay in the least restrictive environment. We also provide supportive adjustment counseling to many of our patients (and family members) to enhance their ability to deal with these unexpected changes in functioning imposed by their injury or disease.
Dr. Fulbright opened his practice in 1987 and gradually expanded it into a larger clinic providing both testing and rehabilitation services. He and his staff have provided neuropsychological services continuously since that 1987.
Dr. Fulbright earned his doctorate in clinical psychology (PhD) in 1985 from the Division of Psychology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas (now UT Southwestern). He underwent additional training in neuropsychology at UT Southwestern after completing his regular doctoral studies (1983-1984) and was the first psychology graduate student from UT Southwestern with specialty training in neuropsychology. Dr. Fulbright completed his doctoral dissertation on neuropsychological aspects of Alzheimer's disease. After earning his doctorate, he worked as a neuropsychologist at Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation and then entered private practice.
Dr. Fulbright is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Science at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. He is currently quite active in the Parkinson disease community, serving on the board of the Texas Voice Project for Parkinson Disease and the Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society. He also served on the Professional Advisory Committee of the North Texas Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society from 1991-1998. He is a Fellow in the National Academy Neuropsychology and is a member of the American, Texas, and Dallas Psychological Associations.

He does not communicate well. He is highly opinionated without comprehensive review. He offers no feedback other than condemnation. I left his office feeling much worse not better about myself. No compassion what so ever.

They paid close attention to me and all of my questions were answered. Not only are they always on time for my appointments. They always return my phone calls quickly. I always know that I'll get a prompt answer to my question. I knew I was getting top-of-the-line treatment when they told me about what they learned at the latest conference they attended, and how they were incorporating that knowledge into the practice. One thing I really appreciate, is how flexible their appointment times are. One thing that sets this practice apart from others is that the neuropsych evaluations are concluded with information that is clear, and that has specific recommendations for the client. It's not just a bunch of test scores with little meaning.
