I have been seeing Beth for about four years now. She is absolutely one of the best therapists I have ever worked with. She is open and easy to talk to. She is very nonjudgemental, offers great professional advice, takes the time to understand what is going on in my life and asks questions if needed to clarify so she can more accurately guide my thoughts in a productive direction. I know that I can tell her anything and it will be kept in confidence.

All great work takes time and she stuck by me every step of the way. She has helped me work through several major fears that I have carried for years. Between working with her and her referral to a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I no longer suffer from as many panic attacks and the ones I do still have no longer require medication to work through.

She is very knowledgable about her profession and knows exactly what additional resources to recommend. She does assign me "homework assignments" to remind me that not all of the work can be done in her office, and guides me in the right direction so I can continue to think about what we talked about and make improvements on my own.

Beth is extremely supportive and genuinely proud of me when I reach a goal or any sort of accomplishment, whether it is related to out work together or not. She works with me when I feel like I need her. She doesn't ask me to schedule an appointment once a week if she doesn't feel like I need it or would benefit from it. In the past, based on what was happening in my life at the time, I have seen her weekly, bi-weekly and even monthly.

I do tend to see her weekly now, even though my life has gotten fairly balanced, because her room is a safe haven for me. Our sessions have become a worry free hour for me, where I can talk or vent about whatever is going on in my life, how I'm feeling, just saying whatever is on my mind even if I don't feel like I have something I particularly need to work on. I greatly enjoy working with Beth and I'm glad I found such a caring person to trust with my mental health.

Beth's office is neat, clean, comfortable and professional. It is a perfect setting for the work she does, puts me at ease, and allows me to relax and focus on the important things. Her office staff is kind, helpful and knowledgeable. I have gotten to know them as well in the last four years. I enjoy interacting with them during check in and check out, or on the phone if I have concerns or need to schedule or reschedule. Beth is also relatively flexible in hours and will work with you in order to meet at a time and date that work for you. I have even seen her once or twice on a rare weekend, at or after 5pm, and even more than once in one week (although I avoid evening and weekend appointments out of respect). She has also been available by phone if I am out of town but would still want to keep an appointment. Her office is in a great location, but during rush hour it is naturally a slightly longer trip.

A note on finding the right therapist for you that I have learned over the years and, surprisingly enough to me at the time, reinforced by Beth during our first appointment... When you are looking for a therapist, or any health or mental health provider for that matter, it is important that you find the right fit. The first person you see may not be the right one for you. Remember that you will be their employer. You are paying them for a service and you shouldn't settle for just anyone if it will not be a beneficial relationship. Don't waste your time and money on someone who isn't doing their best to help YOU! Try reminding your therapist of this and see how they respond. My father was the one who told me to do this. He has been a therapist and social worker for over 25 years. Using that advice, I am rarely disappointed with and of my health or mental health treatment, and if I am I know that I can always go to someone else (I have done it before, even with specialists). I hope that this has been at least somewhat helpful.
