It’s very unusual for me to write a review, but I just can’t put this experience behind me without sharing for others to hopefully benefit from. I was looking for a new vet for my 2 sweet cats, Willie and Bella, and after reading some reviews I decided on Animal Medical and Surgical Hospital. Willie had not been eating as usual and I had a hunch he was having a problem with his teeth so I made an appt. to take him to see Dr. Marcum. The front desk was friendly when I arrived and the wait time to see the doctor was acceptable. I did however find it odd that they didn’t ask me to fill out any new patient paperwork. Dr. Marcum examined Willie and concluded that he needed to have his teeth cleaned along with possibly 1-2 extractions. He said he just wouldn’t know for sure the extent of the work until “he” was actual doing the procedure and could assess the situation better. He also suggested a complete blood profile to make sure there was nothing else going on and that he was healthy enough for the surgery, which I agreed to. He provided me with an estimate of the charges for the procedure that included a low and high amount. We set up the surgery for first thing the next morning and he told me he would call me that afternoon around 4:30 to let me know the results of the blood profile so that I knew all was ok to bring him in the next morning. Here’s where things start to go downhill…by 7pm I had still not heard from anyone about the results of the blood profile so I called the clinic. Someone answered and stated she would give Dr. Marcum the message to call me. About an hour later he finally called and said all was ok to proceed with the surgery. I have no way of knowing if he would have called without me calling first, but all I can do is give him the benefit of the doubt. The next morning when I arrive to check him in I’m told by the girl at the desk that there was no record of Willie being scheduled for surgery that day. After about 10 minutes of waiting and explaining that I had been there the day before and Dr. Marcum had scheduled this, someone finally comes out and takes me to a room to check Willie in. The tech tells me they are slow for the day and that they should get to him very quickly. I apprehensively leave him there for his surgery. About 2 hours later someone calls to let me know that the surgery is over and that Willie is doing fine and that they had to extract 1 tooth. He then gives me a window of time in which I can come and pick him up. I promptly arrive to pick up Willie and once I have paid I am escorted to a room to wait to speak with who I assume will be Dr. Marcum since he led me to believe that he would be doing the surgery. Much to my surprise Dr. Tillery comes in and starts talking about the surgery and post op care. He never introduced himself and the only way I knew it was Dr. Tillery was because I saw it on his lab coat. He mentioned he did the surgery…oh REALLY…shouldn’t I have known this before they passed off my beloved pet to someone else that I’ve never even met?? He also made a casual comment that he “inherited” Willie. I interpreted that as meaning Dr. Marcum didn’t want him, or realized he didn’t have time for him, and therefore passed him off to someone else without my knowledge. I had never felt so unimportant, unwelcomed, and frankly taken advantage of in all my life. If they blatantly treated me this way then I shutter to think of the treatment that Willie received while in their care. After Dr. Tillery was finished with the post op instructions he tells me they will get Willie for me. A few minutes later a girl walks in carrying my Willie in his pet carrier and rather than carrying it with her hand for stability she has the handle looped around the bend in her arm by the elbow and the carrier is tilted somewhat on it’s side (I guess that’s how they treat an animal that has just had surgery). She sets it down on the table and clearly states, “here’s your cat you can leave now”. She immediately then walks out of the room and leaves me standing there. I am just totally in awe at this point and to think that they benefited from the almost $600 I just paid them. It just doesn’t feel like a fair exchange for the services and poor treatment that Willie and I received. In the end, I’m most concerned that Willie is going to be ok, but they will never know this as they didn’t even bother to call the next day and ask if he was doing ok, I guess that really sums it up! As upset as I am, I’ve really tried to convey my thoughts without letting too much of the anger and emotion cloud an honest, accurate review of my experience. The saving grace is that Willie probably has no idea of the poor treatment he received and I’m happy to carry that burden for him as he’ll love me unconditionally as if it never happened. I hope this is helpful in assisting you with the tough decision of choosing someone you trust to take care of your pets.

Dr. Kevin Markum and his staff are one of the best staff and facilities I have seen in the Texas area.

I have been seeing him for 10 years since he had the little house that was the vet.

Don't listen to that Maria chick she must have been having a bad day. I have never had any issue with Dr. Markum or his staff.

His diagnosis are right one and he has always helped my pets get well.

And so have the 15 friends that I have referred him to. You will not be sorry you chose this office or Dr. Kevin Markum to take care of yours pets needs.

I hoped this has helped someone make the decision to chose this vet.

All of the doctors that work there are fabulous and the techs as well.

Don't let someone else's bad attitude effect your opinion.
