Unhelpful and incompetent.

Julie is a nice and polite person however that is as far as the upside of dealing with her goes. She can appear friendly during consultation. However, she is utterly incompetent in dealing with troubled teens. If you are trying to work through emotional issues with your teen and you want to bring your family closer together while dealing with troubling behavioral issues, aggressiveness, lying, foul language, anger, indifference, etc. and you turn to Julie for help, I wish you good luck. You might as well turn to a plumber to fix your roof or a gardener to help with your washing machine. Teens scare Julie. She cannot provide an environment where the nature of the family interactions are discussed and the root of the issues are openly addressed. There is no possibility of getting Julie to help improve family life or do much else but beat around the bush and provide faint praise to your teen when she behaves somewhat more civilly without ever dealing with the deeper issues that drive the emotional outbursts and the negative behavior. What you get instead is a clear message that you should expect problems with any teen and that all you can do is hope that things will turn around by themselves in a few years time when the hormones subside and maturity kicks in. The extent of Julie's wisdom can be summed up in this quote from her: "i also had big issues when my girls were teens but they came around in their mid-twenties". Or, in other words, I am unable to help you and there is nothing i can do for you in the next 8 or so years but in the meantime, you and your daughter can keep visiting my office and paying my fees.
