Unprofessional. She is now working in Albany NY. I saw her for several months. She is self-employed & does not understand how billing works. She kept asking me what my co-pay was (Medicare) & I explained that she needed to bill them first, then bill me 20% of their approved amount. I happened to see on my online Medicare account that she'd finally billed them, and I printed out a summary for her, showing the amount she would be receiving from Medicare. I did this as a favor. She complained that she could have used the info sooner (not my job as a patient to do bookkeeping). She was very angry that the amount Medicare paid was not as high as she thought it would be. As a patient I have no control over her contract with Medicare. She spent half the session (which she later billed for) arguing w/ me about it, then made it clear what we were doing wasn't "real therapy" & I should find another therapist. I was stunned at this lack of professional behavior. She never explained what she meant by "real" therapy, just implied my issues were trivial. This had never come up before, and I would have liked to have known that we weren't doing "real" therapy before I invested 3 months in it! I left the session early, after she essentially dismissed me. It was clear that she was upset at the amount Medicare was paying her for my sessions. I do not think it is professional to dismiss a client in this way, and surely this attitude reflects on other aspects of her practice.

I will be returning, and although I can wait for my next appointment, I know that seeing her can make a significant difference in my recovery. At each appointment, Barbara's entire attention was focused on me and my issues. I felt well cared for. I am amazed at how considerate and concerned she was for my well-being. Her advice is always sensible, sound, and refreshingly unbiased. She made sure all of my questions were answered, and she was always available if I really needed to ask more. She did not need to make a special effort to do this - Barbara is a natural listener and a talented professional who makes one feel respected and heard with ease.
