About

Judy Figura, LCSW

It's often a difficult decision to begin therapy, yet this can also mark an exciting turning point during a rough period of life. Researching a therapist who matches your needs is important, and I welcome you here as you read about my approach and style of therapy.

My approach to helping people is to see the challenges of life as opportunities for growth, as our struggles can serve as catalysts for drawing more deeply upon our inner strengths. As therapy begins, my first goal is to understand and appreciate my clients' values and life experiences, as well as their struggles and problems. In a respectful environment of no judgment and no blame, problems can be safely explored, allowing room for healing to occur. Fresh new insights and improved coping skills for managing the complexities of life can naturally result from this process.

My style of therapy is collaborative, and I am guided by the goals of my clients as we identify the important issues to explore. Often this work involves looking closely at patterns of thinking and emotional reactions, with an eye toward increasing conscious awareness of patterns that may keep a person stuck in joyless cycles. My approach is holistic, giving careful attention to the biological, mental and emotional, social and spiritual needs inherent within each of us.

I specialize in working with people facing depression and anxiety, grief and losses, other challenging life transitions, and relationship issues. In addition, I work with those who are doing the hard and important work of recovering from trauma.

Many of the people I see in therapy are dealing with specific and current troubling events. Others come ready to tackle broad, long-term challenges. In my experience, both types of situations are excellent reasons to enter therapy and to seek support in handling life's difficulties with strength and grace.

I am a participating provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, and Value Options. For clients who are not covered by an insurance plan for their mental health needs, I offer a sliding scale fee.
