About

Joanne Baum, Dr.

I focus on 3 often overlapping areas: 1) Substance Abuse, 2) Divorce Coaching\/Marriage Counseling and 3) Trauma utilizing Brainspotting

In Substance Abuse I provide: Evaluations, Consultations for best fit treatment options, Interventions, Couples and Family Work, Personalized Recovery Plans, Continuing Care (individual, couples, family and group), Recovery from Codependence, and Trauma work for relapse prevention.

With Divorce Coaching we go over divorce alternatives, and I provide individualized divorce coaching for meeting needs to communicate more effectively, co-parent, get rid of trauma triggers, develop a parenting plan that works for your whole family, decision making ideas, learning to be better co-parents, and reduce the overall stress and tension so your family can adjust to living in two loving homes. I am also trained as a Mediator, Collaborative Law Professional, and Early Neutral Evaluation team member.

Marriage Counseling with the goal of creating a more compatible and enjoyable relationship.

Unresolved "Big T trauma" and"Little t trauma" is often behind a lot of what blocks you and affects you negatively - your relationship with your self and other significant people in your life. It can interfere with your: marriage, divorce process, parenting, work, friendships, serenity, and sobriety. There are a number of different theories and techniques for resolving Trauma. Brainspotting, with its exquisite Resourcing, is a very effective set of mind and body techniques to resolve trauma, phobias, accidents, feeling and being "stuck," and chronic pain. Brainspotting appears to create new neural pathways in the brain allowing you to get out of the old ways of being stuck and creating "New Truths" which allow you to behave and respond differently to old triggers and new circumstances.

Dr. Baum is an extremely effective therapist. Her kind and authentic approach to empathetic listening and compassionate understanding met me where I was and helped me grow as a person. I was suffering with anxiety and depression when I first reached out to her and was desperate for help. By the end of our first session, I had several new strategies to help deal with those feelings. Through our work, I came to understand myself better than I ever have and I no longer struggle with anxiety and depression. I am a kinder, gentler person to myself and those around me. I am a better husband, a better father, and happier in all aspects of my life as a result of what I learned working with Dr. Baum, and I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Joanne is a brilliant therapist. My life completely turned around thanks to her. I have been sober for over a year, and I am not going back. Life is sweeter on this side of sobriety than any drink can promise. It is easy to say that now, thanks to my work in therapy, but if you had tried to tell me that 2 years ago, I would have told you to get lost.

"The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off."

Getting sober set me free after pissing me off. Joanne provided the wisdom and guidance I needed, exactly when I needed it. She told me uncomfortable truths about the path I have been on and the path I needed. She let me vent my frustration and fear. She helped me move forward.

Call Joanne when you are ready for your life to improve.

Call her when you are ready to explore your healing and feel the pain that goes along with healing. I know--pain with healing?--it sounds weird, but trust me, it is part of the process. I wish it weren't. If I can do it, you can too.
