Dr. Salas-Whalen is a double board certified physician with broad experience across all facets of endocrinology, with a particular emphasis on obesity, diabetes and thyroid disorders. She believes that every patient is different and that effective care must be customized according to individual needs. She is a strong advocate for prevention rather than treatment – especially in regard to obesity and diabetes. She performs in-office thyroid ultrasonography and fine needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules.
Dr. Salas-Whalen is an active participant in the continuing advancement of her field and a strong proponent of lifelong career learning. She is a clinical instructor at NYU Langone Hospital.

TrainingDr. Salas is originally from Mexico and completed medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Cuidad Juarez in Chiuhuahua, Mexico. Following her residency at Jacobi Medical Center in New York, she completed a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Maryland. Dr. Salas gained extensive experience with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes at the University of Maryland's Joslin Diabetes Center, part of an elite group of affiliated centers that has been the nation's leader in diabetes research, treatment and education since its founding in 1898. She conducted clinical research at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC and at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, examining the effects of bariatric surgery on the resolution of diabetes.
