About

Irine Schweitzer, MS

I am excited to tell you a little bit about myself, my approach in my work, and my credentials.

My Commitment.
I am passionate about helping good parents become better parents. I express that passion in working with parents on either an individual basis or in a group setting. When appropriate, I use the STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) model because it is effective, easy to follow, and is well structured. To learn more about this model and my parenting classes, click here.

I am also passionate about helping mothers, fathers, or other parenting adults, to come to terms with whatever might be holding them back from being the kind of parents they want to be. To address that, I offer individual therapy. Please click here to read my article about the crucial impact parents’ well-being has on their children.

I am also committed to helping parents create a kind of home and a relationship that would serve as a model for their children’s future relationships — one based on love, respect, partnership and commitment to mutual well-being. To address that, I offer couples counseling. Please click here to read my article that will help your marriage and relationship.

Educational Background.
I have a MSW degree in Social Work from USC, and a MA degree in Jewish Communal Work.

I have been licensed as a Clinical Social Worker since 1995.

I am a third-year candidate in a PhD program in psychoanalysis at Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies.

Professional Background.
I am a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work, starting in 2004.

I am an active member of California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, San Fernando Valley Chapter.

I belong to and attend many continuing education workshops throughout the Los Angeles Psychological Association.

I am a member of Encino Tarzana Regional Medical Center Collegial Consortium.

Special Services.
I am available to speak to groups — on a multitude of topics relating to parenting, Jewish parenting, and making marriage work. In the past year, I have given successful presentations to parents at nursery schools, Hebrew schools and synagogues, as well as to various organizations for young married couples.

I accept many types of insurance, including Aetna, Value Options, Holman Group, Horizon, MHN and Medicare.

I am bilingual in Russian and English.

Services As a parent…
…it’s hard when your child is:

A Toddler who refuses to share toys, screams when you leave, grabs things from others, hits other kids, throws temper tantrums, refuses to go to sleep, and dumps all his food on the floor with glee.
School Age who doesn’t do her homework, gets into power struggles with you, takes forever to get dressed, won’t listen when it is time to turn off the TV or the computer, lies, cheats and has few friends.
A Tween who talks on the phone constantly, is obsessed with her weight, wants a piercing, can’t stop IMing, texting, or updating Facebook, won’t focus on school, has a love-hate relationship with her best friend, and finds fault with everything you do.
A Teen who wants to be separate yet connected, experiments with drugs, cigarettes, alcohol and sex, isn’t interested in plans beyond high school, sleeps all day, and wants you to leave him alone.
You are not alone. It’s time to get the guidance and help you are looking for.

I am here to help.
I have helped many others like you – good parents who want to become better parents.

I can help answer many of your questions, help you create a discipline plan that works, and provide you with skills to address your particular challenges.

Most importantly, I can teach you how to form a close, loving, long-lasting relationship with your child that can withstand all of life’s ups and downs.

Let’s get started.
