Dr. Behney has been practicing longer than I've been alive, and like many of the "old-line" Vets he takes a practical hands-on attitude toward treatment, and he's seen enough and tried enough that there are very few things that surprise him any longer.

And since Dr. Ames closed his practice in Douglas years ago Dr. Behney is one of the only Vets that serve the Eastern side of Cochise County, and on top of that he not only does small AND large animal work, which is increasingly rare, but several years ago when a gelding that I was feeding for a vacationing neighbor managed to run a 5-foot yucca cane up his inguinal canal, leaving the end trailing in the dirt and making it impossible to load him into a trailer, Dr. Behney traveled 25 miles and was there to doctor that horse within an hour or so based on a single phone call and a brief explanation of the problem.

I've heard that Doc is semi-retired these days, and the day that he finally hangs it up for good is going to be a sad day for the residents of Cochise County, because Dr. Behney has served us well above and beyond the call of duty for a long long time.
