At first I didn't know what to make of his neutral manner, but then I came to appreciate his calm direct approach to the serious problems that my EX-wife and I had created for ourselves and our children. He didn't always take my side or my ex's side. At first, I thought that he was just trying to take a middle of the road position so that each of us wouldn't be too angry, but then it became clear that he was trying to figure out what was going to work best for our daughters.
