About

Cathie Platt, LPC

Relationship conflicts, losses, spiritual crises, physical illnesses, stress and addictions all contribute to the feeling at some point in our lives that "there is some healing I want to do." Each of us has programming from childhood of which we are largely unconscious but which affects our lives through distortions in our self image. By becoming aware of this programming, which lodges in our bodies, emotions and thoughts, we can learn to make conscious choices about how we wish to respond to all that we encounter in our environment.

An approach that underlies my work is Psychosynthesis. Discovering our many subpersonalities and recovering aspects of ourselves that we left behind in childhood allows us to integrate them around our personal center, our self. Then we no longer move willy-nilly through our daily lives, unconscious of the meaning of our conflicts and confusion. Jungian psychology and its concepts of shadow, anima/animus also facilitate in-depth personal exploration.

Using these non-rational approaches, I attempt to interweave body awareness, emotions and mind in a safe environment that encourages an appreciation of the sometimes fragile, sometimes undesired and ultimately lovable parts of ourselves. The outcome is a more conscious and realistic perception of ourselves and the world.

In my work, I may include various modalities in addition to "talk therapy" such as energy work, breathwork, dream work, and imagery and visualization.

What I like most about my work is that both the client and I trust his/her inner process of uncovering material that is ready to emerge. The body and dream work combined with the psychological work give us many surprises that invite further conscious exploration.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been in private practice since 1988. I am a practitioner of Graciela Damewood's Integral Healing Method, which takes into account the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of each individual. I work with adults individually and with couples. Often, my clients are simultaneously working with another health care provider, and useful collaboration among us all greatly benefits the client. On a practical note, I am a participating provider with Anthem, Aetna, Optima, Medicare, United Health Care as well as other companies.

I first started seeing Cathie when I was 26 years old. At this point I was just starting to touch on childhood trauma and figuring out why I had so much anxiety. Cathie helped me navigate romantic relationships, and how to start to understand myself through talk therapy, breathing and dream work.
Almost 15 years later I am back with her now, really getting to the core of my deep wounding and repatterning my attachment trauma. Cathie is direct and to the point. She listens but does not let you dottle in the he said she said. I leave every session with a new understanding of myself or a tool that I can use in every day life. I am so grateful for her. She is a legend.
