My husband and I visited Elisa based on a recommendation from a friend. I did not have an overall positive experience with Elisa. She did more talking then we did as clients. The sessions were very sporadic versus sequential in details of what happened that ultimately resulted in seeking a marriage counselor.

When we did talk, she would interrupt (mostly me) and jump back and forth between the two of us. In my opinion it was very choppy, confusing and she was only collecting bits and pieces of the whole picture. This method did not allow me to share all what I needed to share to tell my full experience or feelings. I felt no validation or confirmation of my feelings or experiences. The important issues that were brought up that were extremely damaging to our marriage were never addressed in the sessions. We visited approximately 6-8 sessions as a couple.

She did not respond well to my personality. I am friendly, outgoing, gregarious, yet blunt and have a strong personality. She appears to want to be the female dominant in the room and does not respond positively to women with a strong personality

When I stated my final decision about our marriage she did not handle that well. She "put me in a box" hurled questions at me in a harsh tone and all my responses were responded to with a raised voice. I felt judged versus "I want to help you".

I would not recommend Elisa for marriage counseling if you truly want to save your marriage. She did not help in saving ours. It would've taken a lot of work, and I mean a lot of work. I did not trust her based on the way she treated me and how the sessions were handled, especially the last session.

Do some research. Talk to people who have sought marriage counseling. Find the right fit for you. If I was to do it again, I would've done more research versus take a single recommendation. I visited with the individual who had made the recommendation and there were some similar experiences.
