I sprained my ankle last night, so we got an order for an x-ray from our primary care doctor and called the Instacare to ask them how much an x-ray would cost. The woman on the phone (who we later learned to be a fat blonde with a really big nose who goes by the name of Amy) said that she really didn't know and couldn't say what it would cost. She said it would depend on how many views were taken, etc. I asked her if the charge would be closer to $50 or $300, and she repeated herself with saying, "I really just can't say- I have no way of knowing. I've seen some people be charged $50, and some people get charged $300." I said, : "So, they shouldn't cost more than $300 then?" She got even more flustered, and while stuttering said, I really can't say for sure. I then asked if it would be cheaper to come on Monday (since today is a Saturday), and she gave me a simple "No" to that. She said the prices are the same regardless of the day.

We went to the Instacare, waited until we were called, and they put my husband and 3 kids in a room while getting ready to do my vitals. My husband came out and said he just wanted to clarify that we had an order for an x-ray already, so we didn't need to see a doctor. He was talking to the woman who brought us back, and within seconds, two other women invited themselves to the conversation, one of which we later found out to be Amy when she piped and said she was the one who took our calls. The woman who brought us back, in response to my husband's question, said that they don't do outpatient x-rays on the weekends, so we would have to pay for the doctor's visit and the x-rays. One of the other women (a fat brunette in scrubs) said that Amy couldn't have known we had an order because she couldn't read our minds. We said that we had called specifically to ask if it would be cheaper on Monday, and we were told no. We had also called to ask about how much it would cost to come and get an x-ray, and Amy didn't even mention needing to pay for a doctor's visit in addition to the x-rays. If she had, we could have told her that we had an order.

When they learned that we did have an order, the fat brunette said, "Well, the reason we don't do outpatient x-rays on the weekends is because there's no one here to read them, so the x-rays wouldn't be read until Monday anyway." My husband said, "So, there wasn't any point to any of this."

I thought: 'We went to the Instacare thinking it would be cheaper because we were grossly misinformed by someone who should have known better! Why wouldn't Amy tell us over the phone that, just so we were aware, no one would be able to read the x-ray until Monday, if we did come in today? Why wouldn't she have said, 'Just so you know, we don't do outpatient x-rays on the weekends?' Isn't all of that information I could have used? Do I have to ask those questions directly in order to get the information that should have been given to us in the beginning?' Needless to say, we left.

Amy and the fat brunette were incompetent, rude, ignorant, and possibly worst of all, if they had a chance to do it again, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't change a thing. They were very self-assured amongst all their blunders and stupidity. Those are often the worst kind of people to entrust with anything, especially your health. It was a horrible experience, and I won't be going there again. I would recommend them to anyone.
