At 31 years old, a college graduate and a professional woman I found myself in need of the services at CCFW. (women of ever race, age and socioeconomic class find themselves in this situation) I had been on some doctor prescribed medication that interacted with my birth control and I ended up pregnant. This obviously was not an easy decision to make but considering my current life circumstances and some other health issues continuing the pregnancy was not an option for me. Where I am located in NC I had 3 clinic options all about 3 hours away. I ended up going with CCFW because they were able to schedule my appointment the fastest. I was at about 6 or 7 week along in my pregnancy at this point. They scheduled my appointment for only five days after contacting them. Anyone would be nervous in this situation and I was no exception. I am going to explain my experience hoping that anyone else considering CCFW will find it informative. Upon check in at the front desk and doing a small amount of paper work with in five minutes they had taken me back to start the process. You have to go through many steps before the actual surgery happens. Once you are taken back you are asked for a urine sample (yes they give you a plan Styrofoam cup with no lid and a sharpie to write your name on it but I did not find this a big deal considering the circumstances, I would rather pee in a "coffee cup" rather than them tack on an extra 70 bucks for a "specimen container") You are taken to a private bathroom and there is a small closed window to set your sample in. After this you are taken into another room to have you blood pressure taken, this is done with standard doctors office BP cup. Next you you are moved into a small lab in which a nurse pricks your finger to get a blood sample. This is kind of annoying but not painful. Once all these pre-op test are done you are taken into yet another small room to fill out more paper work. This paper work basically is to ensure you understand what you are doing and that no one is forcing you to make this decision. Also a few questions about your mental state at the time, how you are feeling. Are you scared, happy, guilty, nervous, confused...things like that. Once you've filled out this paper work you are to talk with a consular and to make your payment. (Standard payment at CCFW is $370 but finical assistance is available for qualifying patients.) This is really the only negative experience I had with CCFW. First of all the consular nurse seemed to be new because she had just a yellow legal pad sheet of paper with all the standard question to ask you. These again are basically like you understand that you are terminating the pregnancy, understand the risk involved in the surgery and no one is forcing you to have the procedure done, also if YOU have any other questions. She had to keep checking her "cheat sheet" and just didn't seem very confidant asking the questions. I found this a little off putting but I can get over that but what really made me say to myself "WTF?!?!?" is how they handled my payment. You also pay the consular at this time. I had been planning on paying using my Visa debit card but a couple days before my appointment it got misplaced. I had a temporary Visa debit card from my bank (until my new one arrived in the mail) that was a perfectly ligament card but because it did not have my name printed on it they made me leave the office park have my ride take me up the road to the 7-eleven and get cash out of the ATM. This was already a stressful for me and the last thing I wanted to do was have to leave mid process and run up to a gas station, ya know? I found it really unprofessional and a little insensitive. I went and got the cash and came back to continue. After the payment they take you into a private dressing room and have you disrobe and put on a hospital gown. They give you a basket to keep all your belongings in and it stays with you the entire time. Once "gowned up" you are taken into the surgery waiting room. This is a small room with semi-comfortable chairs, a tv and really soft fuzzy blankets to wrap up in. (i found the blankets very comforting honestly) This is where you do most of your waiting. I probably should have mentioned that through out the entire process there are several (6-10) other women going through this too. Everything is done one at a time but the waiting in between steps (blood pressure, finger prick etc.) you are sitting around with these other women. Okay back to surgery waiting room... Every so often a nurse will come in to give one of the women their pain med and Valium to prep them for their procedure. One at a time the women are called back to actually have the pregnancy termination done. Once in the surgery room you are place on the table, legs up in the foot rest and booty kind of hanging off the table. You are also given a stress ball to squeeze, I didn't find it comforting but some may idk. The doctor comes in inserts his tools and starts to preform the abortion. Honestly I was in a GREAT deal of pain. I knew it was not going to be comfortable but I had no idea how actually painful it would be. The nurse had to wave smelling salts under my nose the entire time to keep me from passing out. It hurt so bad but only lasted 6 minutes at the very most. I was bawling in tears from the pain. (I should probably mention that I fell asleep in the surgery waiting room for a few minutes after taking the Valium and I don't think it was as effective as it would have been had I not fallen asleep) After you are done they wrap you in this paper kind of cloth with a pad and your super soft fuzzy pre-op blanket and take you to post op recovery room. (there are other women sitting in this room recovering too) I continued to cry because of the pain for another 5-10 minutes but after about 10 minutes the pain starts to subsided and the worst part goes away pretty quickly. Pulling your knees up to your chest really helped me. They give you saltine crackers and ginger ale and encourage you to eat. You are thinking at the time the last thing in the world I want right now is a snack but go a head and eat it. It really did help with the pain and getting my body feeling back to "normal". They will give you more pain medicine also. You are allowed to wait as long as you feel like you need to before you get dressed and leave. I left about 40 minutes after the procedure was over. They call your ride to come pick you up at a private entrance, and it is over. You are given two prescriptions to take for a couple days after but it is just some pain meds and a med to make sure all the tissue and clots are out of your body. It was not fun obviously but it wasn't god awful either. There were no protesters outside and it is located in a professional (almost kind of fancy) medical park. For the most part I had a very good experience with CCFW. Especially considering a friends not so great experience with a Planned Parenthood Clinic. CCFW is most private, non judgmental and comfortable way of going about terminating a pregnancy. It is your body and your choice, if you find yourself in this situation do not let anyone else opinion or judgement keep you from doing what you feel is right for YOU!! CCFW is clean, comfortable, fast, affordable and staffedwith kind understanding professionals. I do recommend Carolina Center for Women.

The equipment was so old here I thought it might be an antique. I was scared something was going to break during my appointment. I was treated terribly. I'm absolutely positive that I would have gotten better service anywhere else. They wasn't able to answer ANY of my questions. I question how they got their degree. They left me completely alone for a long time and I became very nervous.
