My mother entered Hospice care on a Monday; I was told I would receive a "comfort pack" of medicines the following afternoon. It came, eventually, the following Saturday afternoon. She died the next Tuesday morning, so we had the necessary medicine for only about 2 days of her illness. In addition, the nurse who came on Tuesday said she would be back later that day with supplies: she never showed up. Because the medicine hadn't arrived, the nurses had to call things in as the symptoms progressed-- once they were called in incorrectly-- another time we went to get the medicine and it hadn't been called in. Most of our contact was over the phone.
Finally, because the care was so inadequate, I called the supervisor and said that when we had signed on to Hospice, they had pledged to keep my mother comfortable. She was obviously in great discomfort, and I told the supervisor that I was appalled at the lack of care. She told me that since the symptoms were progressing so rapidly, they would transfer my mother to the Gosnell House that evening. A time for transport was arranged. I received a call from the nurse about 1/2 hour before transport was due, and was asked if I had called. No, I said, we're just waiting for Mom to be transferred to Gosnell House. Oh, said the nurse, the transfer isn't going to happen tonight, and it may not happen at all. Why not, I asked. It turns out they had given the bed away. My mother died later that night.
I generally do not post reviews, but our experience with this group was so destructive that I feel I must let people know. The only reason I'm giving one star is that after I found out my mother wasn't going to be transferred, I called back and broke down in tears. The nurse who I dealt with came to the house and was a true human being. He arranged for an ambulance lift to move Mom to the hospital bed that I had ordered, and he showed us how to position her to make her comfortable. Why hadn't anyone taken the time before then to do this?
A terrible, terrible experience. I will be filing a formal complaint.

I would just like to say what a wonderful place this is for the person being cared for and for the families as well.
My husband received the most professional care, kindness, caring consideration, love and so much more while he was at Gossnell right up to the time of his departure. The way they came outside with us and watch as my love was taken away to his rest and they cried with us. They are the most wonderful angels ever.
I can not say enough about the staff from Norman right down the line. I want to thank you all for the wonderful kindness that you showed to me and my family and most of all to my husband during his stay with you. You should ALL be proud of what you do and believe me when I say ALL of you are angels to me.
I have great respect for all of you and your wonderful Gossnell Hospice Home.
