My mother was a resident at Southern Hills for approx. 8 months while waiting to be approved for Medicaid. I couldn't wait to get her out of there. Her bathroom was nasty every day. I cleaned up feces on the floor more than a dozen times.

She never ate so many sandwiches and hot dogs in her life. The food was almost edible!

Her call button was almost always on the floor behind her where she couldn't reach for it when needed.

The directors would not return my calls or would be "out of the office" if I went to speak to them.

The final straw was when I went to visit her close to Easter 2017 and her room smelled horrible. It turned out to be HER! She had diarrhea running down her legs and into her socks. The aide had planned on checking her needs AFTER DINNER!

The place is almost the worst. There are a few more in Middleburg Hts. and Berea that are actually worse than Southern Hills.

All the nursing homes have issues due to understaffing, uncaring staff, etc. But there is no excuse for a nursing home to be this poorly run, short-staffed all the time and stench throughout the building.

It took me hours to get her discharge papers and have her transported to another facility even though I gave them several days' notice.

She has now been in the third facility and she is well cared for and age 97 she now needs total care in every aspect.

I highly recommend visiting nursing homes without an appointment and look around, talk to the residents, read reviews before you make a decision for your loved one.

Send a loved-one here if you don't care about them!

Southern Hills has made one of the most difficult times in our life into one of hope and kindness. The staff truly make it a wonderful facility and most of them go above and beyond their duties to rehabilitate our mom and keep us and our mother happy. We trust them to care for the most important person in our lives, which speaks volumes.
