Putting a family member in a nursing home is a traumatic time. And, right now, there is such a horrific scandal with Veteran's services, I think it will do the heart good to know that there is one Veteran's Homes that is kind, compassionate, and attentive. My whole life, I was so proud of my father's svc. in WWII. We even went to visit Germany before his Alzheimer's was severe. And, we fought to keep him home as long as we could. But, as with most Alzheimer's patients, there comes a time that you have to accept it. Although it was over an hour's drive to see daddy; mom would get phone calls regularly to just to let her know the "he had a good night. Or, they were able to get him to eat a good meal." But, the most staggering/amazing thing was when it came daddy's time to be with God. The staff took the liberty of moving his roommate to another room so that our family could alone with daddy. One of the nurses, called another who was on vacation to let me know that they didn't expect daddy to make it through the night. She came in from her vacation and spent the rest of that day with us. She wouldn't leave until we got ready to go. And, throughout the day we had dozens of doctors, and nurses from throughout the hospital to tell us how much they enjoyed and respected our daddy. Just, so for all the VA worker's out there; remember to treat them with respect, because they could be the ones treating a family member who deserves respect as well.
