Ed Hemeyer, M.D.

Dr. Hemeyer has been a Board Certified Family Physician in Bellevue for 17 years. His life changed after getting a fungal infection in his lungs seven years ago. Subsequently he developed Chronic Fatigue Immunodefiency Syndrome (CFIDS) and Fibromyalgia (FM). He sought a different model of care, understanding that the current medical model excels at acute illnesses and self limiting diseases, but is not as good for indolent chronic illnesses.

In October 2006 he became Board Certified in Environmental Medicine and is one of only three physicians in Ohio to do so. He was elected to the status of Fellow of The American Academy of Environmental Medicine by his peers in October of 2007.

During the past several decades there has been an alarming growth in increasingly complex chronic diseases. This increasing chronicity of illness and multiple organ involvement demonstrates a decrease in response rates to treatment. Environmental physicians believe that these treatment failures result from too much emphasis placed on the nature of disease and its symptomatic treatment, and not enough attention to the cause of the disease.

Environmental physicians look towards both external and internal stressors as the cause of disease to the human being. External stressors include: diet, multiple allergies (many we are unaware of), man made and natural occurring chemicals, infections, physical phenomena. Internal stressors include: genetic limitations, psychological stress, dysfunction of biological systems including thyroid, adrenal, sex hormones, and neurochemical imbalance.

The dr is great but his staff is incompetent. I was called and told that my appointment would be canceled if I didn’t have blood work done. I told Becky that I did and gave her the hospital and asked her to let me know if she found them. I received no call so I cancelled at 3:33 and told Becky that I didn’t get a call. Literally 20 minutes later the nurse calls to tell me she found it. I told her I cancelled and she offered to reverse the cancellation. I also told her that I called for a refill of my depression meds and it was a week and still no meds. Needless to say I called to talk to the doctor directly and I received no call. Very unprofessional!!!!! I will be going elsewhere.

Their staff is very friendly and professional. Their office was the absolute perfect temperature. It was so nice to be able to get out of the weather outside and sit in a relaxing, comfortable office. I spend a little too much time in the waiting room. I've waited longer at other offices, but I was hoping to be seen sooner. I felt like my needs were mostly met, but they didn't make any extra effort.
