About

Michael Harris MD, MD

Hello, and thanks for visiting this site. I am Michael Harris, a Board Certified MD, practicing Ophthalmology in Livingston, NJ since 1986. I offer comprehensive medical and surgical Ophthalmic care. I treat all ages. I examine children for glasses and contacts and congenital problems. Young adults are more likely to need refractive solutions , but it is sometimes surprising how adult diseases can be revealed with the help of advanced diagnostic technology. Mature adults require early detection and treatment of medical conditions that have associated eye problems.
Primary eye disease such as glaucoma and cataract are, of course, priorities.

Technology has radically changed Ophthalmology and the examination process. The OPTOMAP retinal exam allows most complete exams be performed without dilation which is greatly appreciated by my patients. Refraction, Glaucoma scanning, and Ophthalmic imaging are all computerized and automated. To learn more about the OPTOMAP 200Tx Camera, goto OPTOS.COM.
Glaucoma laser treatment, SLT (SELECTIVE LASER TRABECULOPLASTY), is offered as a first defense therapy which may eliminate the necessity for daily eye drops. These painless procedures are done at the office premises. Usually this technology is only available at a ambulatory care center. I incorporated the first SLT Laser in NJ into my practice in 1998. This procedure is medicare approved! I perform Cataract Surgeries at the St. Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center. I am a full professor at the Hospital Center as well.

Contact lens Fitting has always been a strong area of my practice concentration. For the first seven years of my practice, I was also the Director of the Contact Lens Clinic for the Medical School of New Jersey in NewarK (UMDNJ). I treated patients for medical and cosmetic uses of contact lenses and trained the residents. The clinic was a required rotation in their training. When my private practice grew more busy, i reluctantly left that position.

A full service Optical Shop completes our total care approach.

Unlike many optical shops inside doctors offices, mine is not a concession. I added the shop in 1995 and was fortunate to find Michael McGavin, a NJ licensed optician, to run the shop. Michael performs all the lab work himself. That means he will assist you with frame selection and completes the ordering of materials and fabrication personally at his own lab. All work is fully guaranteed, meaning, if you are not satisfied a complete refund is made. Some of the newer technologies in lenses are at premium prices. Try these new products risk free. See if they perform as advertised. Check GeoQpons on your smart phone for special offers and coupons.

Call us for an appointment! Unlike other offices WE RUN ON TIME. My office philosophy is respect should be mutual: both patient and doctor should be on schedule.

They always go above and beyond to help me with anything I need. They never complain about anything, and I know I can always count on them. They do such a great job of never overbooking appointments, even though they are extremely popular. I know for a fact that they have lots of business, but I've never had to wait a long time in a crowded waiting room like other places I've been too. I felt that they really valued my health and happiness because they followed up even after my appointment just to check up on me. It was such a nice gesture that made a huge difference.

I could tell that they took pride in their office's appearance. It was very well organized and well taken care of. They had a huge selection of magazines in the waiting room. I was able to find some of my favorites and they kept me entertained while I was waiting for my appointment. Dr. Harris is an excellent Opthomologist. I highly recommend him. My Wife has been a patient for 20 plus years.
