My symptoms: endometriosis (my uterine lining is seven times thicker than it should be), a fibroid that has dramatically increased in size since my last ultrasound, and ovarian cysts. Dr. Thiara made a good case for removing my uterus. But he also said that when he removes the uterus he always removes the ovaries because he doesn't want to be sued when the patient develops ovarian cancer in her sixties.

So many problems with that statement:
* Crappy bedside manner.
* The legal aspect speaks for itself as an outrageous thing to say to a patient. The only reason to remove my ovaries would be a clear medical necessity.
* It does not allow me to consider the tradeoff between cardiovascular disease, common on my father's side of the family, and ovarian cancer, which is deadly but statistically less likely to affect me.
* In addition, nothing against men but if I’m going to be told I need a hysterectomy, I want to hear it from a woman doctor.

Dr. Donald stood in for my regular OB (Dr. Solos-Kountouris, who is WONDERFUL btw) while I was being hospitalized for severe hyperemesis during my pregnancy. On the day that she "visited" me - again, subbing for my regular OB - she barely stayed 20 seconds. She stepped just inside the door, not even bothering to walk beyond the curtain to my bed so I could see her clearly and stayed just long enough to tell me that she was discharging me right away. Up to that point, I was still on a very restrictive clear liquid diet, and I was still throwing almost everything up, even with the IV fluids and the medications. I was extremely weak from having kept very little in my stomach, fluid or otherwise, for almost two weeks. I was mostly shocked that she didn't even come in to evaluate me, or bother to look at my chart where she would have seen that I was not tolerating any oral fluids, and was losing weight. I called my regular OB, and she overturned the discharge right away. The next time Dr. Donald subbed for my OB, she didn't even bother to see me. She called the nurse and had her ask if I "felt that i was ready to go home yet". I basically told the nurse what my regular OB had told me - I had to wait until I could keep something down. Even the nurses were shocked that Dr. Donald was pushing for a discharge. The minute I kept one meal down, Dr. Donald discharged me. All without coming in to see me. I have never had such a horrible experience with a doctor. I can deal with poor bedside manner and bluntness. I have never, however, encountered such a disregard for patient safety. Dr. Donald clearly didn't care about my health, and more importantly, she didn't care about the health of my unborn baby. I would NEVER go see her voluntarily. In fact, when I have my follow-up with my regular OB, I will request that Dr. Donald never come see me if I am ever in the hospital again. I'm shocked at the positive reviews because it was such a horrible experience, and I just can't believe that any doctor could be so callously negligent.
