I went to a clinic to be assessed for swollen lymph nodes and I had a truly horrible experience with Dr. Kong who was horribly rude, dismissive, aggressive, and frankly incompetent. One of the first things she said to me was, I see you take this medication (for ADD that I’ve been taken for over 10 years now) that can cause occasional nausea. I’ve never experienced any side effects from this medication in the 10 years I’ve been taking it, and don’t even have any nausea….? I explained these things to her and she tried to move on to the next easiest answer so she could give me an answer and have me leave. As a nursing student who will have my BSN degree in a few months, I told her background information I felt was relevant, and explained what test I have already had done recently and what the results were. When explaining needed to know, relevant information to her, she cut me off, several times, saying why are you telling me this, that’s not related. As someone in the medical field- they absolutely were relevant to know if she was going to attempt to make the correct diagnosis. She took a 2 second look in my mouth (after aggressively telling me I was somehow opening my mouth incorrectly…) and had me diagnosed with strep throat. As a person who has has strep 10-20 times in my life and almost had my tonsils removed because of it, I explained this and said I didn’t think it was strep. She got very angry and said “I don’t even know what you want me to assess then.” I explained that the whole reason I was in here was the lymph nodes and she made two diagnoses and was ready to send me home without even touching or assessing them. After the strep misdiagnosis without a strep test, I had to tell her what to assess (my neck lymph nodes) and had to show her 3 times where it hurts due to the swelling. She then had to try to find an easy quick fix answer since it was approaching the end of her work day. She quickly listened to my chest, took one look in one of my ears and said I had an ear infection. Again… as someone who has had 2-3 decently severe ear infections before, I knew I didn’t have an ear infection. She said she would draw labs (she acted like I needed sufficing and reassurance for the hypochondriac patient). When labs came back, she walked in and said in a smug arrogant done “see your labs are normal and fine, you don’t have any blood infection” (which I hadn’t really even considered and for sure haven’t mentioned to her.
