I was a patient of Dr. Michelle R. Cochran for almost 10 years. From 2010 to 2012, I was psychologically abused by a mental health counselor so severely that I nearly died by the damage to my higher level cognitive functioning. It took me over $35,000 to stabilize me and now a highly experienced trauma therpist to help me heal. (FYI-That provider is harming another client currently who is now worse than when she met her because she was not reported.) Dr. Cochran began to "attack" me directly after I reported to her my abuse by this therapist by writing hateful and false statements to me in multiple emails and threatening me with her attorney. She blamed me for things her previous office staff did (that she fired just before this happened because they had piles of memos and work in drawers that had never been done. One time, the 2 office staff were even cussing each other out while 3 of us were in the waiting room, including a drug rep.) Dr. Cochran has refused me my legal right to my medical records trying to keep me from filing a complaint on this abusive therapist, dismissing even a request by the Office for Civil Rights when they educated her on my rights to receive my records (HIPAA and the HITECH ACT.) Despite her refusal to give me my records, I have much documentation on her behaviors before and after I reported my abuse. I stopped seeing her because she was no longer safe to be around, even though she never once accurately diagnosed or treated me during all those years. I even have permanent damage to my body from drugs that she gave me for diagnoses that I never had. It doesn't make sense that she would exhibit such behavior after all those years of a calm and consistent therapeutic relationship. Any provider who could attack or threaten a patient, especially someone they have worked with for almost 10 years, is not someone I would recommend. If she could do it to me simply because I came to her speaking the truth about abuse I sustained by a colleague and seeking her help and protection from that therapist, I'm sure that she would do the same to others who might come to her needing help.
