His bedside manner was horrible. He seems not to really care about my problems, my history or my suggestions. He was most concerned about a past due Co payment.

i was referred to Dr. Garfinkel by my psychologist who I respected, and had a good experience with. I felt Dr Garfinkel and his assistant were generally unprofessional, and a little strange, or quirky basically. they both made me a little uncomfortable, but I just needed meds, so whatever. I had just moved back into the area. My purpose for going was to get prescriptions for maintenance drugs for depression and anxiety that I have been on for many years. Full disclosure, I had been off one of them for a time, and was in the midst of increasing it again to level I had been at before. i spent 2 visits with him, each about an hour. He asked lots of discovery questions in the first visit, and wanted to follow up the next week to finish. For the second visit he sat me down and asked that I wait while he reviewed my file, apparently to decide what else he needed to know. It was only a few minutes, but usually the review is done before the patients time starts in my experience. During this visit, I felt he asked many of the same questions, he would pause for streeches seemingly to think of others to ask, and it basically was nothing new discovered that I could tell. During one of my visits in the middle the assistant knocked, and the doctor left for a few minutes, and while he was gone the assist took it upon herself to sit down in the room with me, "to keep me company", and chatted a bit. I found this very odd, and unprofessional, and felt that it was intrusive. Not a big deal at the time, I wasn't in some emotional or vulnerable state, but I surely did not seem right, or ethical for that matter. The doctor gave me 2 prescriptions, although we discussed the 3 I'd been on. I didn't realize, or think about not getting the 3rd until later. I scheduled a 3rd appointment, but in between I got a new job that would start very soon and was taking me out of state. I called the doctor to let him know, cancel the 3rd appointment, ask for the 3rd prescript I didn't get, and ask if he could prescribe me more of the others because it would take me time to find another doctor in my new home. The assist answered the call, left me on the line to explain to the doctor, came back and said I would need to come in. I had 4-5 days to move to another state, and said it would be difficult. Frankly I didn't see a reason for it, and obviously had other priorities. That didn't move her. I asked to speak directly to the doctor, she said she already told him everything, which I already knew, she snickered (attitude), and went to see if the doc would talk to me. She came back said he would not talk to me unless I came in. That's when i got upset. She would not let me talk to my own doctor, or he refused. He was also refusing to give me the 3rd prescript we had already discussed. She was unapologetic, and defended by saying I had only been there twice. NOT a good experience, and would not recommend him to anyone if there are any other alternatives.
