I moved to Frisco and was looking for a new dentist. I went for a routine cleaning and was told I needed to get a crown due to a cavity in one of my back teeth. I was given the quote for the one crown so I could financially plan for the next time I came in to do the crown. Dr. Joey McElhaney mentioned that while drilling and putting on one crown, they may need to drill laterally to fill in the tooth next to it. I was never told that he was going to put two crowns until the procedure was over and he had already done all the drilling. This cost me double the amount of money that I was quoted, so my experience here was that Dr. Joey McElhaney was not transparent with what needed to be done and did not ask me if it was ok to drill for a second crown. He just went ahead and drilled for two crowns anyway. I went into the office with no pain and came out with pain that kept me from chewing on that side of my mouth for six months, even after Dr. Joey McElhaney made some adjustments. I had to go back to my hometown in San Antonio to my previous dentist to get a second opinion and eventually had to get two root canals just to eat correctly. The staff at the front desk and the dental hygienists at Frisco Square Dental were lovely and professional, but I had a terrible experience with Dr. Joey McElhaney. I have never been yanked by my face so hard by a dentist and he seemed to be careless with how he was handling my face on multiple occasions. I also found it strange when he began talking to me about how he thought Ivermectin could be a possible treatment for COVID, as his friend had tried it and gotten great results. This conversation was the last straw for me, and I had to leave this office as a patient. What I learned is I will never let a random dentist drill into my mouth. Should I need to find a new dentist, I will ask for recommendations from someone I know and thoroughly read the reviews. There are many great dentists out there. I suggest asking someone you know about theirs and passing on this facility.
