I was shopping for a dentist who was closer to my residence so I decided to give North Columbus Dental Group a try. I was due for a cleaning and would take advantage of a cleaning appointment to see whether I wanted them to crown an implant I had done and replace a crown on another tooth.

When I first called to inquire about a first cleaning visit, I asked if they were offering any specials. I was told to just go look online for coupons. When I replied that I would not be making an appointment that wasn't discounted, I was then offered a "special" initial exam, x-ray and cleaning for $69.00.

Already I had a bad feeling about this. It seemed strange that they were quick to brush me off to go hunt down coupons but then quickly remembered the "special" when I wouldn't schedule.

I was contacted less than a week later to confirm my appointment. When I asked them to confirm the price for the visit, they asked me if I had found any coupons. I had to remind them of the $69 special to get them back on board. After confirming the special price, they then said that it only applies if I fall into that "category". Meaning that if for some reason I needed a deep scale cleaning that the $69 special would not cover it. This made me suspicious that they priming me and would not to grant the "special" price once they get me into their office. I was prepared to walk out if they could not provide the $69.00 special. I already have a dentist who does regular cleanings without any problem.

Walking into the practice was like walking into a motel 6. The office is down a hallway of a run down building that looks like it should be condemned. Open the door to the waiting room and you can immediately see that this office is out of money. It had a 1970's feel to it and the furniture appeared to be something dug up out of a dumpster.

Upon arrival I was given the paper work to fill out and I also handed them a written letter asserting my right to withhold my personal information from 3rd parties (HIPAA 164.522). I asked them to sign it and to keep a copy of it in my file. These are the rights of all patients and is even printed on the practioners own privacy policy that you are handed.

I filled out the paperwork I was handed but would not release my personal information to them until they handed me the document I asked them to sign. The office manger looked flipped out that I should make such a request as though it was unreasonable even though their own privacy policy states to submit in writing if you wish to withhold information from 3rd parties.

They made 3 attempts to acquire my information without concenting to my demands. The doctor came out to the waiting room and spent 10 minutes trying to coerce me to allow them to share my data with other parties without revealing who those parties might be. She kept making up excuse after excuse as to why they might need to share my info and on each excuse, I told her I would be happy to concent to release my personal information only provided that I know who she is sharing it with.

Needless to say I'm not hiring that practice to do any of my work. I have 6 of these forms signed by doctors I do business with and not one of them hesitated to comply with my wishes.

I have always lived by the rule that if anyone is unable to deliver that which I pay for, they don't get hired. After all, it's my money.

I've been going there for several years. They are friendly, patient, and do good work. I never have to wait past my appointment time. I've had a couple ongoing dental issues and they have gone above and beyond to be helpful. One time the dentist came in on a Sunday to fix an issue. I was impressed, as usual. I highly recommend them.
