After being a loyal patient of Dr. Leon C. Lester Jr for over 10 years, he deceitfully misled me about orthodontic services that he was paid to provide but never provided yet has failed to refund me the complete payment I made to him in 2019. Only after I filed a complaint with the North Carolina Attorney General Office did he provide me with a partial payment. This was after 7 months of my repeated requests for him to reimburse me and his false assurances that he would do so.
In November 2019, I made a down payment for orthodontic services (clear aligners) with Dr. Leon Lester. He had set the expectation that my orthodontia trays would be received in 6 weeks. In January 2020, Dr. Lester called me not about my orthodontia trays but to inform me he had sold his dental practice. Based on information I found, he had sold it in December 2019 which meant that he knew at the time he took my down payment that he was in the process of selling his business. If I had known this information, I would have never reached out to him for orthodontic services. He assured me that he would still be at the practice and provide my service.
February 2020, Dr. Lester contacted me stating that the vendor requested that my lower impression be redone. I went into the dental practice to have the impression redone. I had no further communication from Dr. Lester until May 2020 when I went in for my 6-month cleaning. It was at that time Dr. Lester informed me that there was a delay in receipt of my trays because the vendor used an overseas company to create the orthodontia trays.
On July 1, 2020, I contacted the dental practice because I had not heard anything further from Dr. Lester since my visit in May. The office manager informed me that Dr. Lester was no longer with the practice and he had left in June. Dr. Lester never contacted me to make me aware. When I contacted him, he gave various explanations, but I informed him that I would prefer a refund which he agreed to.
I have spent the last 7 months attempting to get my refund. Dr. Lester has constantly given me dates that he would provide me the refund but when those dates arrived, he would have another excuse why he was not able to meet that date. He even went as far as providing me two post-dated checks on an account that never had any funds in it. I would text him and he would give another excuse. He eventually stopped responding. In October 2020, I filed a complaint with the North Carolina Attorney General Office.
He responded to the complaint agreeing to refund my money in two payments on dates that he provided. When the first payment came due, he started giving excuses again and tried to change the payment date. I made it clear to him that if he did not make the payment, I would go ahead with my plans to file a complaint with the North Carolina State Board of DentaI Examiners. He made the first payment. When the next payment came due, he gave another excuse. Till this day I have not received the payment. After 10 years of a doctor-patient relationship, there is a trust that is built, in this instance it was a misplaced trust.
