For my 2:30 PM appointment, I arrived at 2:20 PM. I asked if they needed my paperwork when I arrived, they said no that they would run it and call to check and verify my insurance coverage when they called me back.

I sat for 50 minutes, at 3:10 PM a dental tech called me back. I handed her my paperwork so that she could call and find out exactly what my coverage was. She said that she would, but she did not at that moment. When she took me to the exam room, I told her that I had "No Money" for any extra services not covered by my insurance. She said that she had my insurance coverage "memorized", which was a complete lie. I said I wanted absolutely nothing done that was not covered.

She proceeded to do a full complete set of x-rays, something like 12 or 16 x-rays. It turns out that this is only covered every 5 years, I found out later, but she did them anyway. I had these done 2 years prior at a different dentist, so therefore, not covered. She did a blue thermal light cancer test on my gums, I actually had no idea what she was doing as she didn't tell me or ask my permission for the procedure. When I realized, she said it was fine, my insurance covered it. I would have absolutely never ever agreed to this service as it is completely unnecessary.

When I checked out on this day, I owed $28 cash because my dental insurance certainly did NOT cover the blue light cancer test at all! They knew this right away and obviously had to have known that I would have to pay for it when the tech did the test, even though she lied when she said that she had my insurance "memorized". They also tried to strong arm me into buying a night time bite guard that was around $480. Not covered by insurance, of course.

When I went back on 9/29/15 for a teeth cleaning, they put fluoride on my teeth. I again said that I don't think that my insurance covers this and I only wanted a cleaning that was covered. They reassured me that my insurance covered a fluoride treatment.

When I went to check out this day, I had paid the $28 previously for the cancer screening that I did not want, nor ask for, and specifically stated not to do, but I paid out of pocket cash for it against my better judgment. Well now I owed another $190 on top of that for the full set of x-rays that were also absolutely not covered by my insurance. Later, I owed for the fluoride treatment too because that was not covered.

The billing lady, who has since blown up my phone with calls and threats about sending my bill to collections, at first said that their techs there would "never" do services that I did not ask for or were not covered. Then she saw my bill and realized her error and that the techs working there lied.

Gentle Dentist never ever called my insurance company to check my coverage. They proceeded to lie and state that they either had called or that they had "memorized" my dental coverage and would not do any tests that were not covered by my insurance.

Well they lied about everything. This is a horrible company with lazy and lying employees. They should have checked my dental insurance on the very first visit while I sat for almost an hour and waited for them. I filled out all their forms, but they did nothing at all with them, just setting the forms aside. I called my dental insurance and they have no record of them EVER calling to see what my coverage was. They just did expensive testing and ran up bills very secretly, then lied to cover their tracks.

I am disabled and on Medicaid, my income is exactly $0. I would never ever have gone to such a poor company just to have my teeth cleaned to end up in collections. They should have done their job and called my dental insurance to verify coverage. But they wanted to hurry me in and out and try to rip me off.

Further, my cleaning was horrible. Too light of a pressure, I guess that is their "gentle" cleaning, my teeth still felt dirty afterwards! My useless x-rays were glanced at by another dentist working there, not Dr. Tolias, who then told me to floss and tried to get me to buy a $500 bite guard. What a load of scam artists this place is.
