I have retired from hospital inpatient care completely. I now utilize the hospitalists at all 3 of our area hospitals should one of my patients require hospitalization. I also have relocated to a smaller, "cozier" office, and only see patients 3 days/ week. I do not accept any 3rd party payors, nor am I a "provider" for any insurance companies, government programs, PPO's, HMO's, etc. I have found these "organizations" have the tendency to occasionally force their $ influence into clinical decisions where they do not belong; I strongly believe this is wrong, and can increase the anxiety, and risk, to my patient, and, potentially, increase my patients' morbidity and mortality rates.
