I certify that all my comments are 100% true and accurate.
My family of 4 has been treated by Highland Family Dentistry ("The Practice") for about 4 years. [a true statement.] Overall, we are pleased with the services provided [another true statement.] However, a "deal breaker" incident occurred today which resulted in our moving on to a new provider [another true statement.] We have no issue with the professional competence of anyone at the Practice [another true statement.] But we do take issue with what we consider to be a "not customer friendly" policy at this Practice [another true statement.] I believe it unacceptable professional arrogance for any medical service provider to perform, without notification to the patient, any service which has been specifically declined by the patient. [ a true statement of my belief about the proper relationship between the patient and any professional medical service provider.]

This post consists of statements of fact. Feel free to contact me if you have questions about any of the following statements.

After several requests for a change in treatment, I was told first by "Beth" and then by "Melissa" that it was the Dentist's "protocol" to always "recommend" that fluoride be applied to patients' teeth. In addition, I was told that it was not possible to decline any "recommended" treatment. In behalf of my family members I have asked repeatedly to be told prior to any application of fluoride, with the intention of refusing the treatment each time. I was told that it is their standard policy to do just that, i.e. to say, before applying fluoride, "Now I am going to apply fluoride to your teeth." Today that "policy" was repeated to me again, after I called to complain that they had failed to follow the policy when my daughter was treated today. It is our position that there was no warning given prior to the application of fluoride. There have been other prior occurrences of this same complaint by myself and other family members. Melissa assured me that the warning was given because it is "our policy to always do so." Bottom line, we are leaving this Dentist's practice because we are not allowed to be in charge of our own dental treatment. They refuse to honor our request to decline a portion of the Dentist's protocol. Our choice was clearly proposed by Melissa: That we must A) Accept the "recommended" treatment or B) Find another dentist. We choose option B.

It my intention to provide an update to this post if the Practice does not refund or apply, as promised by Beth, a $56 credit balance on our account related to insurance proceeds exceeding the anticipated amount for treatments prior to today.

The purpose of this post is to provide factual information about the relationship between my family and the Practice. I encourage anyone to consider all relevant facts when choosing a professional medical services provider. This post should be considered, or disregarded, only in its entirety. The writer insists that this post should not be edited or paraphrased, redacted or amplified beyond its verbatim content.
