First off I just wanted to say that Dr. Dharmvir S. Verma is a very kind and conscientious person and doctor. The colonoscopy procedure he performed for me was straight forward and had no complications. I would have given him a rating of "Excellent". However my problem is with the receptionist at his local office in McHenry. When I first visited his office she gave me a battery of questions. One of the questions asked was there any history of colon cancer in my family? I mistakenly answer yes off the top of my head. My father did have cancer but it was prostate cancer not colon cancer. Now based on this incorrect answer I provided they billed the colonoscopy procedure as a "DIAGNOSTIC" service instead of a "PREVENTATIVE". As a result of the incorrect coding of the procedure I'm now being charged out of pocket $1,000+ dollars. I addressed this incorrect coding of the procedure with the receptionist and Dr. Verma within a week or two after the procedure, I was informed that a letter will be sent to the hospital a.s.a.p so the coding could be revised to "preventative". The procedure was originally performed on 1/6/20, as of 3/11/20 I've received two past due notices from the hospital requesting payment, I contacted Dr. Verma's office at least 3 times between 1/2020 & 3/2020 requesting that the correction be made to the billing of the procedure and was assured that a letter would be sent to correct this matter. As of today I was once again informed by the receptionist that the letter with the correct coding is sitting on her desk right in front of her and she has not sent it out to the hospital or Aetna to date. Once again she verbally informed me she will get the letter out today. I not feeling confident that she will follow through.
