I DO NOT recommend this office because...

A new resident to the Punta Gorda area and in need of an OBGYN to continue my wellness care, I first took some time to research local doctors on line and evaluate credentials. Concluding my study, I chose to make my appointment with Charlene Okonski and secured an appointment via an online portal called ZocDoc. Quite honestly, since her office was utilizing relevant technology caused me to be initially impressed.

However, when I showed up to the appointment—on time with completed paperwork in hand—my experience was very disturbing, to say the least. Since this day was Charlene’s scheduled surgery day (of which I was unaware) her assistant, Valarie Dorn, ARNP-WHNPC, came in to the room to tend to me—she was rude, unwilling to listen to my needs, uninterested in discussing my medical history and—due to a refill prescription required for my 20+ year medication (an injectable hormone)—determined I was “not a Fit" for their practice. Apparently the doctor maintains a policy whereas they WILL NOT refill or prescribe any injectable hormone medications “because she has had bad results with them and does not want to manage this for her patients” according to her assistant, Valerie.

Whilst there was no reference to the above “office policy” posted on Charlene’s website, the following IS POSTED on her site:

She specializes in routine gynecological, care for women of all ages, including adolescents. As well as, gynecologic surgery; including hysteroscopic and laparoscopic procedures, treatment of endometriosis, urinary incontinence therapy, infertility diagnosis, hormone replacement therapy… Dr. Okomski is a member of the Academy of Cosmetic Gynecologists. She has completed advanced training in tumescent liposuction, tummy tucks, breast reduction, and breast augmentation and body sculpting. She also offers a full range of laser cosmetic procedures for hair removal, skin rejuvenation, spider vein elimination, and acne treatment, age spots, and rosacea. Dr. Charlene Okomski has also completed advanced training in Botox, Belotereo, and Radiesse … New patients are welcome!

Botox®, Chemical Peels, breast augmentation are acceptable but managing a new patient’s medical regime that has long before been established and tested by my expert, lifetime team of Ohio doctors is not? A hypocrisy?

In all my 55 years of an extensive medical history, I’ve never had such a negative, upsetting situation at a doctor’s office as I did today.
