Dr. Nordahl has been my doctor for about 4 years now. I typically see him every 6-8 weeks at Northgate Point RST. I really admire Dr. Nordahl; he's flexible, open-minded, friendly and comfortable. I've had problems with psychiatrists in the past because I'm just not the kind of person to say, "Ok, you're the doctor, so I'll just assume that you know what you're doing and take whatever medication you feel like prescribing me, even if it makes me tired, fat, shaky, foggy ... whatever, because you know everything, and I know nothing." I just can't do that and most doctors seem... I don't know... Insulted? Offended? I don't know, but definitely irritated and unwilling to work on alternative options. Working with Dr. Nordahl is different because it truly is working WITH him. If I have an idea that I think might improve my treatment, he doesn't act threatened by it... he encourages me to explore my ideas, he respects that I am a person who doesn't believe something just because someone tells me to believe it. There are some things that just require my own experience. Dr.Nordahl will make suggestions and offer "food for thought" but ultimately, my treatment is my decision, and he doesn't have a problem with that... even when I make the wrong decisions; he'll help me work it out. I don't know how much he understands where I'm coming from, but he respects it and he allows me my right to be a functional part of my own treatment. Oh, and the strangest thing is, he has a wonderful sense of humor! Almost seems unnatural... He must have had really neat parents. Also, I have to clarify "mid level" rating on punctuality because although it is true that he's always "running late," I don't think anyone would ever say that it's a negative thing because we all know that the reason is that nobody ever gets cut off by the clock. A person's appointment ends when they are done, not when the clock says their time is up. THAT says SO much... especially THESE days!
